Human Chess Pieces!3rd graders in CLUE had their chess tournament November 3. The overall winner was Elizabeth Vaughn. Sri Choudannavar was our second place winner. Everyone played well and the chess costumes were very creative!

2nd grade CLUE

In CLUE, we have been learning about chocolate including the history of this amazing food. Tuesday, September 15, we are heading to Dinstuhl’s  Fine Candies as a part of our research.  We will enjoy a presentation about cacao beans and the different kinds of chocolate. Then we will tour the factory.  It will be a yummy time!

After studying Charles Dickens, fourth grade CLUE students will attending a performance of the Christmas Carol on Thursday, December 11. The cost is $6.

As a part of their photography mini-study, 5th grade CLUE will be going to the Brooks Museum of Art on Wednesday, December 17th. They will be seeing an exhibition of photographs from “The Memphis World”.

Week of October 20-24

5th Grade CLUE

Wednesday, Oct. 22nd the 5th grade CLUE students will be going the the Memphis Agricenter to test their sense of direction and adventure by trying to find their way through a giant corn maze.  We will be leaving DTE at 10:00. Be sure to bring a bag lunch and wear comfortable shoes and long pants.

 

 

Chocolate Taste Test!

 

2nd Graders in CLUE are “Dipping” into a study about chocolate. During this research activity, we used our observation skills and senses to compare and contrast  five different kinds of chocolate. The overall favorite was no surprise: MILK CHOCOLATE!

Week of October 13-17

Sixth Grade:
Sixth Grade will be finishing up Call it Courage and begin a study on Shakespeare.
The trip to the Orpheum Theater to see As You Like It  will be on November 5th.
Fifth Grade:
Fifth Graders will be finishing Thesaurus-Rex stories and beginning a breakaway on popcorn.  The trip to the Corn Maze will be October 22nd.

Second Grade:
Second graders will be taste testing chocolate this week.
 
George Rodrigue and Blue Dog
Last year many of our students studied the life and works of George Rodrigue.  He will be doing a book signing and demonstrating the art of painting the Blue dog this Thursday at Davis-Kidd book store. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet George Rodrigue and experience his creativity up close. 
Rodrigue will be at Davis-Kidd Booksellers Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Davis-Kidd is at 387 Perkins Ext. in Laurelwood.
Third Grade:

  Third Graders are becoming “Rockhounds” as we study petrology, the study of rocks. As a part of our research, 3rd grade CLUE students will participate in a rock and mineral lab at the Pink Palace. Ms. Hendrix and Ms. Turner’s CLUE students will be going Monday morning, October 20.
